My name is Devon Wicks and I am currently a preservice art educator currently working on my BA in Art Education. Throughout my younger years in school I knew that educating young minds, as my teachers did for me, was an important career; a career that I knew I wanted to pursue in the future as well. However, what kind of teacher I wanted to be wasn’t known until later on at the end of my high school journey. Throughout school I had always used art as a way to relax away from school and focused a lot of my attention on athletics; although student before athlete, I found a lot of enjoyment through sports. It wasn’t until knee surgery, that I found the time to dive deeper into the visual arts. I have had many influential teachers over the years and one of them was an Art Educator. I have always enjoyed making art since a young age but it wasn’t until high school that it clicked and I realized I wanted to be an Art Educator. After seeing the kind of influence and difference a person can make for some kids in the art room, I knew that I could also make a career out of what I love doing. After high school I would purely further explore art at Sheridan College where I received my AFA. Currently I am furthering my education at the University of Wyoming.
